About Fysh
Fysh is a one-person project. I build small tools I wanted for myself and couldn't find in a form I trusted, then put them online so anyone can use them for free. There's no company behind it, no investors and no growth targets. Just the tools, kept running and kept honest.
What I make
- Event Horizon Web: a live world map of earthquakes, severe weather, wildfires, volcanoes, tsunamis, space weather, floods and armed conflict, built from official sources like USGS, NOAA, NASA and GDACS, with free push alerts and reference pages on faults, countries and volcanoes.
- Red Rocket: an Android app that texts the people you picked when a real emergency alert hits your phone, then tracks who's replied safe.
- Warp Gate: send files and messages straight between two browsers, end to end encrypted, with nothing uploaded and no account.
How I build things
A few rules run through everything here:
- No accounts unless there's no other way. You can use every tool without signing up for anything.
- Collect as little as possible. If a tool doesn't need to know something about you, it doesn't ask and doesn't store it. Each tool's privacy page lists exactly what it keeps.
- Show the source. Everything is open source under the AGPL-3.0 on GitHub, so you don't have to take my word for any of the above.
- Say where numbers come from. Event Horizon Web names the agency behind its readings, and says plainly when it doesn't have enough data to judge something.
Where it runs
The tools run on a server I own and look after at home, not on a big cloud platform. Cloudflare sits in front of the sites for speed and protection from attacks.
How it's paid for
Some pages show ads from Google AdSense, and there's a tip jar on Ko-fi. That covers the hardware, power and domains. Ads are never placed on a page that handles your private data: Warp Gate's transfer page, for example, is kept free of any outside script on purpose. The privacy policy explains what ads mean for you.
